Remember and recall. Commemorate and celebrate.
Live long enough and you’ve got stories to tell. The people you’ve loved, the places you’ve visited, the triumphs, travails, and accomplishments of a meaningful life.
Chances are, you’ve thought about writing down these reminiscences…for yourself, for your family, for posterity. But you haven’t quite got around to it. Documenting a life well lived can be overwhelming: the memories swirl in your head but never quite land in a coherent narrative. Remembering is easy, but writing is hard.
As a professional profile writer, I can help identify, organize and articulate your important stories and memories. My process starts with a questionnaire--I want to get the basics right--and continues with a live, phone or Skype interview. Together we flesh out what you want to say and the tone in which you want it said. If you want other people in on the interview…of course! The important thing is that by the time we’re through, you’ll have an eloquent record you and your family can treasure….one that reflects your achievements, passions and successes as you want them remembered.
In my years as a journalist and features writer, I’ve determined that most profiles detail an important event, document a how-we-got-there process, or tell the story of a person’s life. That last category includes pre-written obituaries and eulogies…you decide what you want said about you when you’re no longer around to say it…and you save your family the burden of another chore at a stressful time.
My fees are modest and turnover time quick. Prices start at $250 for an up-to-500-word story, about two double-spaced pages. This includes two live or phone interviews, a preliminary draft, revisions to the draft, and final copy. If you're in a rush, I promise to accommodate.
